Road Trip to Self-discovery

Have you ever taken a road trip to self?  Have you found that as the miles passed by, you discovered new insights about yourself or had old memories just pop in out of nowhere? Has the landscape you’ve passed through had any messages for you?

I have been on a road trip for the past month, learning new things, meeting new friends and visiting old friends. I am sitting in one place for the moment to make a decision about another big step in my life.  Then I will return to where my stuff is, pack up and move to another location. I have been alone in this, which I think is necessary for learning about self.

roadOld memories have swamped over me.  It is like the turning tires are rewinding the tape of my life. I feel a bit like those people that say their lives pass before them before you die. There is definitely a feeling of re-living and releasing the old.  Even visiting old friends is a bit like deja vu – I used to live here not that long ago.

I have made new friends with like minds and it seems like they are an entry way into a new location and a new life. I made other connections in the same place.  I feel like there is an invitation to move there, after years of searching, and even discounting this new place as a place to live.

So there is something about waiting for Divine timing and not forcing the issue.  All the exploration I did was not wasted, but nothing ever felt right.  Now it does.

I have learned so much on this trip – about myself, about my passions and my work. The mountains and rivers spoke to me, as did the prairies. I have gone from thinking “I don’t belong anywhere” to feeling like “I belong everywhere.” That is quite a shift.  And now I feel like there is a base for me as well – a place to settle for at least awhile.

Have you ever discovered yourself on a road trip? Do the humming of the wheels and the music of a DVD ever put you into a trance of self-discovery?
