Going with the Flow

By: | Posted in: Connection with Nature | Friday, Nov 20, 2015 - 3:36pm

I wonder how a stream feels when it is going with the flow.  I imagine it depends on what type of stream it is, what type of landscape it is flowing through.  I suppose we feel the same.

If I was stream, what kind of route would I prefer to take? I think it would be a mountain stream, tumbling over rocks that sing to me, swirling in pools of lively, dancing water, greeting all the little creatures there as I pass by. When I slow into quiet pools to rest, I speak with fish and insects and other dwellers or visitors. I languish with the (more…)

Happiness by Talking to a Tree

By: | Posted in: Connection with Plants, Connection with Self | Tuesday, Oct 27, 2015 - 8:36pm

Have you ever thought you might gain some happiness by talking to a tree?  That you could gain wisdom or lighten your mood?

Well, my body really craved a walk the other day.  After aching hours on the computer, it really needed some motion.

My body led me to a beautiful local falls in the small town I recently moved to.  I often get led there, even though the view is the same.

But it really isn’t the same, is it?  I may meet an animal or a person. The lighting may be different. How is the sun shining on the water today? Is there a spray off the falls?   I always notice something different.

And I go into some kind of zone.

I was standing looking at the falls and saw a birch tree in front of me hanging off the edge of the gorge. I decided to (more…)

Sad and Lonely, Eased in Nature

By: | Posted in: Connection with Nature | Wednesday, Oct 7, 2015 - 10:27am

I was sad and lonely on my last birthday in September.  I have just moved to a place where I know no one.  Why? That is another story.

So I got online and felt a little better in some connection with my virtual friends.  But it is a beautiful warm day and my business is about connecting with nature so I decide to go for a walk.  I am a 10 minute walk from a beautiful falls and forest.

I decide to take a forest path.  It leads me to a fence to keep me from falling off a cliff. The sun is warming me and the breeze is caressing me. I am very quiet and contemplative. When I get to the fence, I look to my left and see a (more…)

Mountain Message

By: | Posted in: Connection with Nature | Tuesday, Aug 25, 2015 - 8:28am

The following is a message I received while in the Rocky Mountains of western Canada.

Mountain Message:

I have been here for millions and millions of years.   Eons. Before that I was flat. If you look at my striations, my layers, you can see as they reach up into the sky that they used to be flat on the earth.

And since this meeting of plates that caused us to be born, you cannot even imagine what we’ve seen.  Humans are really recent and they are becoming too many. Your time of  vast numbers is almost over in our timeline.  That may
or may not be in your lifetime.

We are rock, we are solid, we are immovable.

Look at our strength.  There is no judgement here.  Just being.  We are here.  We have snow on our peaks at times, (more…)

Decluttering the Past

By: | Posted in: Connection with Self | Monday, Jul 27, 2015 - 5:01pm

Have you ever found it difficult to let go of items that belonged to your parents or loved ones, after they have gone? Are you afraid, somehow, that if you let their belongings go, you will forget them? You will no longer have reminders of them? Does this resistance to decluttering your past keep you trapped there?

I have done this so many times now.  I’ve gradually let go of most of my parent’s belongings. It has helped that I have moved around a lot and even been fairly transient for several years.  There is nothing like living out of a car, and rooming and boarding, to help you realize how little you really need.  Of course you need a little more “stuff” to set up your own place.  And for me, I still have lots of books and some mementos.

For the last several years, I have been trying to detach from a piece of family property.  It is piece of bush along a (more…)

Road Trip to Self-discovery

road

Have you ever taken a road trip to self?  Have you found that as the miles passed by, you discovered new insights about yourself or had old memories just pop in out of nowhere? Has the landscape you’ve passed through had any messages for you?

I have been on a road trip for the past month, learning new things, meeting new friends and visiting old friends. I am sitting in one place for the moment to make a decision about another big step in my life.  Then I will return to where my stuff is, pack up and move to another location. I have been alone in this, which I think is necessary for learning about self. (more…)

Plant Communication and Roots

Root Tenacity

Have you ever thought about plant communication? Have you ever thought about roots? We know they anchor the plant and take up nutrients, but have you ever really looked at where some of them are? Plants and trees grow in all kinds of substrates and what seem like inhospitable conditions. They also communicate with each other.

On one of my walks the tenacity and exploratory nature of roots became really obvious to me. I could see the roots growing down the side of a bank and into the ground again. Trees grow on the sides of rocks and mountains as well.  Is that not amazing?  Why would they choose to grow there – a seed lands and it just starts to grow, with enough sun and water.  It is not thinking – “Oh boy this is a really dangerous place to grow.”  And it can grow to quite an age in these places. Name and Self-image

By: | Posted in: Connection with Self | Tuesday, Mar 24, 2015 - 4:21pm

Recently I changed what I want to be called.  Have you ever considered changing your name, hoping that it will make you feel different about yourself and the world? Would it change your self-image or the way that others see you and respond to you?  Would you communicate and act differently?

For me, I just had a strong, sudden feeling I wanted to be called Maggie.  My name is Margaret Ann, so it is not a difficult transition, from Ann to Maggie, a version of Margaret.

After I kept getting this urge, I consulted someone on what difference it would make energetically.  She referred me to a numerologist.  I must admit I had never really considered the energetics of doing this until very recently. After the numerology session, though, I decided to go ahead, changing my online presence and informing people.  I don’t have to change anything legally. (more…)

Plant Communication

By: | Posted in: Connection with Plants | Monday, Feb 23, 2015 - 10:30am

Do you ever talk to plants?  Would you ever admit it? I think lots of people talk to plants.  What about people with green thumbs? I decided to give it a try. Could this plant tell me why it wasn’t doing well?

My mother’s begonia plant was not doing well.  Actually it was my grandmother’s plant too.  I could get cuttings from a friend if I wished. I had been travelling all over with this plant.  I wanted to keep it, to save it. (more…)

Animal Messages – Owl Spirit

By: | Posted in: Connection with Animals | Monday, Jan 26, 2015 - 10:30am

Have you ever wondered what messages there might be if you communicated with an owl or another creature? Wouldn’t it be exciting to see what a wise old owl has to say?  About you?  Or about it’s life and environment?

A year or so ago, I was living in a 10 acre remnant of pasture land, grazing land, a land where horses and wildlife had lived.  This area had the beautiful name of Sage Hill.  Noisy and dusty development is going on all around, and it will soon disappear. There were still some wildlife residents, though, including meadow voles, deer, coyotes and various birds.  Four great-horned owls (parents and owlets) were occupying a deserted barn, and hunting on the rest of the property.  I could see them perched on trees and various other platforms. They had nested here for years. (more…)
